The Buck’s Rock Camp Arts Exhibition is a celebration of creativity inspired from the 67 years of providing teens with learning and growing opportunities within the creative and performing arts. The show features over 400 works of art, including 270 works from over 130 campers from the summer of 2008, and 150 works from 60 alumni, spanning a 43 year period of Buck’s Rock Camp’s creative history. It will show the world the unique experience Buck’s Rock can provide for teens and teachers, and the influential effect the summers spent there have continued to have on their lives as they have grown older.

Over 100 pieces of art are for sale, including Glass, Ceramics, Paintings, Jewelry, Drawings, Prints, etc.  The artists will receive 80% of the proceeds, while 20%  will go to the Buck’s Rock Scholarship Fund.

The exhibition will also be open from 10am – 6pm, Monday Dec. 8th through Friday, Dec. 12th. I will be showing Octopus Jesus, Gibson Girl, and a piece from a collaboration with Snoozer Loozer! Images coming soon once I get a chance to breathe.

I was recently informed by my friend Lauren that when you Google ‘octopus jesus’, my page comes up first. VICTORY!! All hail our squishy eight-armed savior!!

Now that I’m active again as a drawer, I found that I was inactive long enough to require me to rebuild my network. Ugh. So I’ve been throwing e-mails around, submitting work, posting portfolios, and all that good stuff. But the hardest part so far, has been finding my niche. Am I a painter or a cartoonist? Do I draw behind the scenes concept work or hang it in galleries? New Yorker or Juxtapoz?

Usually, I’d troll for jobs and let them decide my direction. A pencilling job would start a string of comic book related gigs, while doing concept art gave me something to throw on the wall at an art show I signed up for a few days prior. I liked playing the bases, and I hope that the bases enjoyed being played.

I must say that the hardest part is the frustration of having to work a full-time job and mustering the energy and free time to work back up to being freelance again. Luckily, amphetamines are my friends and I have the unique ability to guiltlessly neglect other priorities in order to boil them down to:

• Job
• Art
• Food
• Sleep

Probably in that order too. Combining Job and Art into one thing and having a feeding tube put in so I can eat while I sleep, would miraculously simplify my life. My doctor already said no to the latter, but the former is within reach. Better yet, if I cut out Food and Sleep, I not only save time, but money too! This is my dream. I want to become a robot. A robot that poops art and plays video games.

Anyway, its late and I just said ‘poop’ in a post, which means I’ve long since run out of constructive things to say. I leave you with some sketches and a painting in progress.

• Have you been saved/mercilessly slaughtered?
• Have you felt the loving/crushing embrace of his eight squishy arms? Have you felt the warmth/blinding pain of his sacred heart rays?
• The Lord Giveth and the Lord Taketh Away, but mostly he Taketh and then Giveth something less good.
• Salvation/damnation lies within the folds of his eight curling arms.
• Submit yourself to him and he will forgive…himself for what he might do to you.
• Meet his warm gaze and –WAIT DON’T GAZE INTO HIS GORGON EYES!!
• He is the Lord, your savior/destroyer.
• He is Octopus Jesus. Love him, as he Loves/Hates you.
