About Maki Naro
The Man
Maki Naro (est. 1981) is the artist and mastermind behind this piece of internet real estate. He has been illustrating freelance since 2004, working on a wide variety of projects ranging from comic books to tattoo designs. His comic edge was honed on a childhood full of Calvin and Hobbes and the non-restrictive curriculum at Alfred University allowed him to dabble in ceramics, electronic media, animation, and metal sculpture.
The Legend
Except for when embarrassing photos of him pop up on the internet, Maki’s past is shrouded in mystery. Rumor has it, he grew up in a sleepy hamlet nestled in a dreary, woe-begotten valley somewhere in upstate New York. Having a name like Maki was difficult for the already socially awkward boy, as it is apparently very difficult to think of anything cleverer than ‘Cock-y’ for a deregatory nickname. Deprived of proper schoolyard ridicule, and yearning for something greater in life, Maki made his first fatal mistake. He went to art school. But there he found his destiny. The school was set in a different, but equally dreary and woe-begotten valley. Its backwoods nature nurtured two of Maki’s favorite things: Making art, and drinking beer. After a while, the novelty of this sedentary lifestyle wore off, and Maki set off for New York City.
There he learned the riddle of steel and ate a lot of rice. And it is here, in the Big Apple, that we find him today.
